AC.302, 창3:22, '여호와 하나님이 이르시되 보라 이 사람이'(AC.298-304)

22절, 여호와 하나님이 이르시되 보라 이 사람이 선악을 아는 일에 우리 중 하나 같이 되었으니 그가 그의 손을 들어 생명나무 열매도 따먹고 영생할까 하노라 하시고 And Jehovah God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, knowing good and evil; and now lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of lives, and eat, and live to eternity,

이것이 왜 유대인들에게는 신앙의 신비들이 절대로 계시되지 않았는가, 즉 그들은 절대로 못 깨닫게 하셨는가 하는 이유입니다. 그들은 사후에도 살게 될 것이라는 걸 분명하게 들어본 적조차 없었는데요, 주님이 그들을 구원하시러 세상에 오실 것이라는 소식조차 그랬습니다. 그들이 사로잡혀 있던 무지와 어리석음은 정말 엄청나서, 지금도 여전한데요, 속 사람의 존재나 내적인 것들에 관해 그때도 몰랐고, 지금도 마찬가지입니다. 그 이유, 즉 주님이 유대인들에게는 계시를 허락하실 수 없으셨던 이유는, 그들의 민족적 특성상, 그들이 만일 그걸 시인, 인정할 수 있도록 허용되어 그때 알았었거나, 지금이라도 알게 되면, 그들은 기어이 그걸 신성모독, 저세상에서 자기들 몫의 어떠한 구원도 남겨 놓지 않을 그런 캐릭터들이었거나 여전히 그런 캐릭터들이기 때문입니다. 그러니까 유대인들을 사랑하셔서 주님이 하실 수 있었던 최선이셨던 것입니다. 이것이 주님이 요한복음에서 하신 말씀의 의미입니다. This is the reason why the mysteries of faith were never revealed to the Jews. They were not even plainly told that they were to live after death, nor that the Lord would come into the world to save them. So great were the ignorance and stupidity in which they were kept, and still are kept, that they did not and do not know of the existence of the internal man, or of anything internal, for if they had known of it, or if they now knew of it, so as to acknowledge it, such is their character that they would profane it, and there would be no hope of any salvation for them in the other life. This is what is meant by the Lord in John:

 

그들의 눈을 멀게 하시고 그들의 마음을 완고하게 하셨으니 이는 그들로 하여금 눈으로 보고 마음으로 깨닫고 돌이켜 내게 고침을 받지 못하게 하려 함이라 하였음이더라 (요12:40) He hath blinded their eyes, and stopped up their heart, that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and convert themselves, and I should heal them (John 12:40).

 

그리고 주님이 그들에게는 그에 대한 설명 없이 비유로만 말씀하신 이유이기도 합니다. 안 그러면, 주님이 친히 말씀하신 것처럼 될 것이기 때문입니다. And by the Lord speaking to them in parables without explaining to them their meaning, lest (as he himself says),

 

그러므로 내가 그들에게 비유로 말하는 것은 그들이 보아도 보지 못하며 들어도 듣지 못하며 깨닫지 못함이니라 (마13:13) Seeing they should see, and hearing they should hear, and should understand (Matt. 13:13).

 

같은 이유로, 신앙의 모든 신비가 그들에게는 감추어졌고, 그들 교회의 표상들 속으로 봉인되었으며, 즉 가령, 희생 제사를 드려도 그 진정한 속뜻이 무엇인지를 모르는 채로 드렸고, 같은 이유로, 예언적 스타일, 즉 선지서, 예언서들 역시 그런 식인 것입니다. 하지만, 여기 아는 것이 있고, 인정하는 것이 있습니다. 알고는 있는데 인정하지는 않는 사람은 마치 그걸 몰랐던 사람인 것과 같습니다. 그런데 인정해 놓고, 나중에 돌변, 신성모독 및 불경하게 하는 사람이 있는데요, 이 경우가 바로 주님이 하신 이 말씀들이 의미하는 바이며, 이것이 유대인들의 민족적 특성입니다. For the same reason all the mysteries of faith were hidden from them, and were concealed under the representatives of their church, and for the same reason the prophetic style is of the same character. It is however one thing to know, and another to acknowledge. He who knows and does not acknowledge is as if he knew not; but it is he who acknowledges and afterwards blasphemes and profanes, that is meant by these words of the Lord.
