AC.141, 창2:18, '사람이 혼자 사는 것이 좋지 아니하니'(AC.138-141)

18절, 여호와 하나님이 이르시되 사람이 혼자 사는 것이 좋지 아니하니 내가 그를 위하여 돕는 배필을 지으리라 하시니라 And Jehovah God said, It is not good that the man should be alone, I will make him a help as with him.

인간 본성(man’s own)의 본질(nature)을 육적(corporeal), 세속적 인간, 그리고 영적 인간, 천적 인간과 함께 설명하려면 그전에 먼저 인간 본성에 관한 수많은 것들을 말씀드려야 할 것 같은데요, 육적, 세속적 인간에게는 그의 본성이 그의 전부입니다. 그는 자신의 본성 말고는 아는 게 없고, 앞서도 말씀드렸듯, 만일 자기가 이걸 잃으면 자기는 망할 꺼라고 생각합니다. 영적 인간의 경우 역시 그의 본성의 모습은 비슷한데요, 그가 비록 주님은 만물의 생명이시고, 지혜와 이해, 그리고 그 결과 생각하고 행동하게 하시는 분으로 알고 있을지라도, 그에게 있어 이런 지식은 아직은 마음속 신념이라기보다는 입술의 고백이기 때문입니다. 그러나 천적 인간은 주님은 만물의 생명이시며, 생각하고 행동할 힘 주시는 분임을 알아차립니다. 그는 실제로 그렇다는 것을 지각(perceives), 그러니까 주님이 주시는 영적 통찰력으로 천사들처럼 그냥 알기 때문입니다. 그는 결코 자신의 본성을 원치 않습니다만, 그러나 그럼에도 불구하고 주님은 그에게 어떤 본성을 주시는데요, 그것은 선함과 참됨에 관한 모든 퍼셉션, 그리고 모든 행복과 결합되는 본성입니다. 천사들은 이런 본성 가운데 있으며, 동시에 가장 내적인 평화와 고요한 내적 기쁨(the highest peace and tranquility) 가운데 있습니다. 그들의 본성에는 주님의 것들이 들어 있기 때문인데, 주님은 그들의 본성을 다스리시거나 그들의 본성으로 그들을 다스리는 분이십니다. 이 본성은 가장 천적인 것 그 자체이지만, 육적 인간의 본성은 끔찍, 곧 지옥 그 자체입니다. 이 본성에 관해서는 나중에 더 다루겠습니다. Innumerable things might be said about man’s own in describing its nature with the corporeal and worldly man, with the spiritual man, and with the celestial man. With the corporeal and worldly man, his own is his all, he knows of nothing else than his own, and imagines, as before said, that if he were to lose this own he would perish. With the spiritual man also his own has a similar appearance, for although he knows that the Lord is the life of all, and gives wisdom and understanding, and consequently the power to think and to act, yet this knowledge is rather the profession of his lips than the belief of his heart. But the celestial man discerns that the Lord is the life of all and gives the power to think and to act, for he perceives that it is really so. He never desires his own, nevertheless an own is given him by the Lord, which is conjoined with all perception of what is good and true, and with all happiness. The angels are in such an own, and are at the same time in the highest peace and tranquility, for in their own are those things which are the Lord’s, who governs their own, or them by means of their own. This own is the veriest celestial itself, whereas that of the corporeal man is infernal. But concerning this own more hereafter.
