16, 17절, 여호와 하나님이 그 사람에게 명하여 이르시되 동산 각종 나무의 열매는 네가 임의로 먹되 And Jehovah God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden eating thou mayest eat. 선악을 알게 하는 나무의 열매는 먹지 말라 네가 먹는 날에는 반드시 죽으리라 하시니라 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof, dying thou shalt die.

그는 또한 주님의 허락으로, 주님이 주시는 모든 퍼셉션을 가지고 선과 진리에 관한 지식을 습득합니다. 그러나 그가 자신과 세상의 것을 가지고 그러거나, 감각과 기억-지식들을 가지고 신앙의 신비들을 탐구하거나 하면 절대 안 됩니다. 그런 짓을 하면 그의 천적 본성이 죽음에 이르기 때문입니다. (16-17절) He is also permitted to acquire a knowledge of what is good and true by means of every perception from the Lord, but he must not do so from himself and the world, nor search into the mysteries of faith by means of the things of sense and of memory-knowledge [sensualia et scientifica]; which would cause the death of his celestial nature (verses 16–17).
