창세기의 첫 세 장은 대체로 태고 교회(太古, the most ancient church)를 다루는데요, 이 교회는 처음부터 마지막, 그러니까 사라질 때까지, ‘사람’(man, homo)으로 불렸습니다. 이 장의 앞부분은 이 태고 교회가 가장 융성했던 상태, 곧 천적 인간이었던 때를 다루고 있다면, 이제 여기 후반부는 자신들의 본성으로 기울어진 사람들과 그들의 후손을 다루고 있습니다. The first three chapters of Genesis treat in general of the most ancient church, which is called “man” [homo] from its first period to its last, when it perished; the preceding part of this chapter treats of its most flourishing state, when it was a celestial man; here it now treats of those who inclined to their own, and of their posterity.
