AC.115, 창2:11, 12, '첫째의 이름은 비손이라'(AC.110-115)

11, 12절, 11첫째의 이름은 비손이라 금이 있는 하윌라 온 땅을 둘렀으며 12그 땅의 금은 순금이요 그곳에는 베델리엄과 호마노도 있으며 The name of the first is Pishon; that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good; there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

태곳적 사람들은 ‘땅’(lands)을 말할 때, ‘땅’이 무엇을 상징하는지를 이해했습니다. 마치 오늘날 가나안 땅과 시온산은 천국을 상징한다 생각하는 사람들은 이 장소들이 언급될 때마다 무슨 물리적 장소가 아닌, 오직 그것이 상징하는 것, 곧 천국을 떠올리는 것처럼 말입니다. 이런 게 본문 ‘하윌라 땅’(the land of Havilah)에도 해당됩니다. 이 하윌라는 창세기 25장 18절에도 다시 나오는데요, 이 구절은 이스마엘 자손들 이야기인데, 거기서 그들은 ‘하윌라에서부터 앗수르로 통하는 애굽 앞 술까지 거주하였더라’(they dwelt from Havilah even unto Shur, which is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria)라고 적혀 있습니다. When the most ancient people spoke of “lands,” they understood what was signified by them, just as those at the present day who have an idea that the land of Canaan and Mount Zion signify heaven, do not so much as think of any land or mountain when these places are mentioned, but only of the things which they signify. It is so here with the “land of Havilah,” which is mentioned again in Genesis 25:18, where it is said of the sons of Ishmael, that they “dwelt from Havilah even unto Shur, which is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria.”

 

그 자손들은 하윌라에서부터 앗수르로 통하는 애굽 앞 술까지 이르러 그 모든 형제의 맞은편에 거주하였더라 (창25:18)

 

천국적으로 생각하는 사람들은 이런 말씀들에서 나오는 지성과 지성에서 흘러나오는 것들만 지각합니다. 그래서 ‘비손이라는 강이 하윌라 온 땅을 둘렀으며’(the river Pishon compasseth the whole land of Havilah)에 나오는 ‘두르다’(to compass) 역시 그들은 흘러들어오는 걸로 지각합니다. 출애굽기 28장 11절에 나오는, 금테로 물린 아론의 에봇 두 어깨의 호마노 역시 그들은 사랑의 선이 신앙의 진리 안으로 흘러 들어가야 하는 것으로 지각합니다. Those who are in a heavenly idea perceive from these words nothing but intelligence, and what flows from intelligence. So by to “compass”—as where it is said that the river Pishon “compasseth the whole land of Havilah”—they perceive a flowing in; as also in the onyx stones on the shoulders of Aaron’s ephod being encompassed with ouches of gold (Exod. 28:11), they perceive that the good of love should inflow into the truth of faith.

 

보석을 새기는 자가 도장에 새김 같이 너는 이스라엘 아들들의 이름을 그 두 보석에 새겨 금 테에 물리고 (출28:11)
