AC.19, 창1:2, '수면 위, 리메인스' (AC.17-19)

땅이 혼돈하고 공허하며 흑암이 깊음 위에 있고 하나님의 영은 수면 위에 운행하시니라 (창1:2)

‘하나님의 영’(spirit of God)은 주님의 자비(the Lord’s mercy)를 의미하는데, 이를 가리켜 ‘운행하시니라’(move)라든지, 혹은 마치 암탉이 자기 알을 품듯 ‘품으시다’(brood)로 표현하고 있습니다. ‘하나님의 영은 수면 위에 운행하시니라’는 주님이 사람 안에 숨겨 보석처럼 소중하게 보관해 오신 것들을 가리키는데요, 말씀 전반에 걸쳐 이것을 ‘리메인스’(remains), 즉 ‘남은 자’(a remnant)라고 합니다. 이는 참과 선에 관한 지식으로 되어 있습니다. 이 리메인스라는 것은, 겉의 일들이 황폐해질 때까지는 결코 빛, 즉 낮 가운데 드러나지 않는 것입니다. 이들 지식을 여기서는 ‘수면 위’(the faces of the waters)라 하고 있습니다. By the “spirit of God” is meant the Lord’s mercy, which is said to “move,” or “brood,” as a hen broods over her eggs. The things over which it moves are such as the Lord has hidden and treasured up in man, which in the Word throughout are called remains or a remnant, consisting of the knowledges of the true and of the good, which never come into light or day, until external things are vastated. These knowledges are here called “the faces of the waters.”
