AC.111, 창2:11, 12, '첫째의 이름은 비손이라'(AC.110-115)

11, 12절, 11첫째의 이름은 비손이라 금이 있는 하윌라 온 땅을 둘렀으며 12그 땅의 금은 순금이요 그곳에는 베델리엄과 호마노도 있으며 The name of the first is Pishon; that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. And the gold of that land is good; there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

하지만 이런 내용은 속뜻(the internal sense)으로 있기 때문에, 설명하기가 아주 어렵습니다. 오늘날, 사랑에서 나오는 신앙(faith from love)이라는 게 뭔지, 또 그런 신앙에서 나온다는 지혜와 지성(the wisdom and intelligence thence derived)이 뭔지를 아는 사람이 전혀 없기 때문입니다. 그 이유는, 겉 사람들이 아는 거라곤 거의 기억-지식밖에 없기 때문인데, 그들은 이 기억-지식을 가지고 지성이니, 지혜니, 신앙이니들 하고 있기 때문입니다. 그들은 심지어 사랑이 뭔지도 모릅니다. 많은 사람이 의지와 이해(the will and understanding)가 무엇이며, 그리고 이 둘이 한마음(one mind)을 이룬다는 게 뭔지를 모릅니다. 그렇다 하더라도 이 모든 것 하나하나가 다 명료합니다(distinct). 네, 정말 가장 명료하지요. 주님은 사랑과 신앙의 그 헤아릴 수 없이 많은 차이점만큼이나 이 온 천국을 마치 수학 좌표처럼 가장 명료하고 정밀, 정교하게 지으셨습니다. It is however a very difficult matter to describe these things as they are in the internal sense, for at the present day no one knows what is meant by faith from love, and what by the wisdom and intelligence thence derived. For external men scarcely know of anything but memory-knowledge, which they call intelligence and wisdom, and faith. They do not even know what love is, and many do not know what the will and understanding are, and that they constitute one mind. And yet each of these things is distinct, yea, most distinct, and the universal heaven is ordinated by the Lord in the most distinct manner according to the differences of love and faith, which are innumerable.

 

※ 우리가 모른다고 해서, 우리가 희미하다고 해서 주님 지으신 이 피조 세계도 덩달아 흐릿한 게 아닙니다. 우리의 내적 시야가 열리지 않아 못 보는 것일 뿐, 실제로 주님 지으신 이 모든 세계는 더할 수 없이 세밀하고 명료합니다. 과연 그런지는 자연계는 초고배율 현미경과 망원경으로, 영계는 주님이 사모하는 자에게 점점 허락하시는 내적 시야로 보시면 됩니다.
