2절, 그가 또 가인의 아우 아벨을 낳았는데 아벨은 양 치는 자였고 가인은 농사하는 자였더라 And she added to bear his brother Abel; and Abel was a shepherd of the flock, and Cain was a tiller of the ground.

교회의 두 번째 자녀는 ‘아벨’(Abel), ‘아우’(brother)로 상징된 체어리티(charity)입니다. ‘양 치는 자’(a shepherd of the flock)는 체어리티라는 선을 행하는 사람을, ‘농사하는 자’(a tiller of the ground)는 체어리티가 없는, 사랑으로부터 분리된 신앙을 말합니다. 이런 건 전혀 신앙이 아닌데요, 그러나 이런 신앙에 있어서는 또 아주 제대로일 수 있는 그런 사람입니다. The second offspring of the church is charity, signified by “Abel” and “brother”; a “shepherd of the flock” denotes one who exercises the good of charity; and a “tiller of the ground,” is one who is devoid of charity, however much he may be in faith separated from love, which is no faith.
